Connie Simmons, Candidate for State House Representative, District 53
"What does the Missouri House of Representatives do?"
The Missouri House of Representatives is a legislative body of the Missouri State Government. The elected members convene to bring forth new bills and to vote them into law. The Missouri House of Representatives also, according to tradition, introduces the annual appropriations bill that determines the budget for the state government over the following year.
"Okay, but how does that affect me?"
Actually, your local Representative affects more than you might think. Everything from how much you might get paid at work (can introduce bills that influence the local minimum wage, or put caps on wages for certain jobs), access to education (can introduce bills that influence the rate of student loans or funding of local schools), and even your daily life (can introduce bills that influence weapon ownership, access to contraceptives, and access to state funded medical care). Why Vote for Connie Simmons
As a retiring school counselor, educator, parent and grandparent my focus as a representative will be on our future and public education. Just because we live in a small community does not mean our students don't deserve the best education available, the best future jobs and the best world we can leave for them. I am tired of reading about our representatives making wrong choices when it comes to our future and voting for or against an idea simply because their party told them to. I will be a representative that votes for or against an idea because you want me to and it is best for our children's future. Let me represent YOU by voting for ME in November!
